The Hosiery Headache

As a tall person, finding tights that fit was impossible.

I was fed up of the sagging and rolling. I was perpetually anxious that one wrong adjustment would lead to laddering. I was sick of compromising my sense of style because tights were so uncomfortable.

I JUST WANTED TO STOP THINKING ABOUT TIGHTS!

In 2024 I had enough. I decided to use my knowledge of fashion with my experience as an entrepreneur, data scientist, and product officer to finally fix hosiery.

Saying Bye to BMI

I realised all hosiery brands used height and weight to approximate fit. In health and medicine, the relationship between height and weight is referred to as Body Mass Index (BMI).

While BMI may have some utility in other fields, it has no place in hosiery design because it cannot describe the distribution of mass across body tissues. Yet, it still was the premise every hosiery brand used to design tights.

And Hello to Comfy Tights!

I designed DAUNTLESS tights from scratch, using a new premise of Waist : Hip circumference ratios to determine fit & sizing.

From analysing census data, I realised height should be treated as largely independent from approximating measurements of body shape in hosiery design. I realised waist : hip circumference ratio was a reliable approximation for body shape in hosiery design.

From this basic principle, I worked for 16 months to develop our patent-pending design.

Finally, we have tights for taller people!!!
